FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the live courses?

The courses include a one hour weekly live lecture. We will go over the material for the week, any questions, and sometimes a fun game to end the hour. Additionally, there is generally a combination of a reading, quiz, worksheet or video for each week. There is a final test each semester that is similar in format to the worksheets and quizzes.

Will my student receive a grade?

Yes! Parents receive an invitation to the Google Classroom site the week before class begins. This site will have assignments, readings, quizzes and exams. Students will be able to take these throughout the course.

Is there a textbook?

Some live courses utilize a textbook, while others use a variety of readings given to students in a pdf format. Each course page will give information on the reading requirements for the course.

When can I start a course?

You can start the first semester of a full year course at any point in the year. I offer the semesters as separate courses for students who do not want to take the full year course back to back or want to start in the “off” semester. For example a student could begin high school chemistry in the summer, take the fall off, and come back for the second semester in the spring.

What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is a Learning Management System (LMS) that allows for all the assignments and readings to be posted in one place. Students can clearly see the deadlines, take quizzes, and ask questions in one place. Parents also have access to all materials.

How long are the courses?

The full year courses are two 16 week semesters (e.g. High School Chemistry 1 and High School Chemistry 2 make up one year of High School Chemistry.) Courses marked as one semester will run for a total of 16 weeks. There are also a variety of flexible term courses that will note their specific lengths (1-5 weeks long).
